Ghostly Whispers on Wenlock Edge
A brand new Barley’s Biscuit adventure set in the lovely countryside of Wenlock Edge in Much Wenlock, Shropshire. There’s a lot of ghostly activities going on here! Could Barley be in a bit of trouble?
Barley, the clever Border Collie dog, his nephew Basil and their human friend Mick, set out on an adventure walk through the fabulous countryside called Wenlock Edge found in the lovely little Shropshire town of Much Wenlock. It is where the modern Olympic games started!
Barley is a clever dog who always loves a biscuit treat. He feels that if a treat is earned it always tastes better. Alongside his nephew Basil and their human friend Mick, Barley always spots some kind of dangerous situation happening during their walks around the beauty spots of Shropshire. Follow the adventures the dogs go through and the interesting facts they pick up along the way about the different areas of outstanding and manufactured beauty. Enjoy the clever way Barley draws a solution and Basil helps to resolve the dangerous situation. This first book finds Basil accidentally becoming the dangerous situation at Pattern’s Rock Quarry and its steep cliff edges. During a stormy day Barley has to be clever, sensible and brave to rescue his nephew from a fate too horrible to think about. During the two dog’s adventures, Mick their human friend, never knows what’s going on, but somehow, Barley always gets a biscuit… and so does Basil.

They walk through the gorgeous township and also do a bit of sailing in a special boat – and some precarious climbing. The spectacular little town of Ironbridge, also known as ‘the Wharfage’, makes for a fabulous setting, but the real action revolves around the Ironbridge itself.

Having lived in Shropshire for over half a lifetime, Roy Bradshaw draws inspiration from its beautiful landscapes for a captivating series of children’s stories. With a background that includes careers as a metallurgist, automotive engineer, and educator, Roy has published multiple novels, poetry, and children’s books. The Barley’s Biscuit project, initially intended as a pair of books, has expanded into a planned twelve-book series, with numerous already published, each set against the picturesque backdrop of Shropshire.
Roy has expanded on this, creating other stories and characters, developing a number of children’s books that captivate imaginations using significant landmarks from the area to tell the tales of his characters.
